Onagawa town was devastated by tsunami. In the reconstruction development project, the local people hoped to bring a new life to Onagawa, therefore they proceeded the improvement for the station front with the voices of young people in the community. "Seapal Pier Onagawa" has been developed and created as a resort town like "Karuizawa" in Miyagi Prefecture.
One of its main tenants is "GLIDE" (Sessionable Co., Ltd.), which specializes in repairing and customizing electric guitars. Not only does it repair and customize, but it also creates its own original guitar "SWOOD". The technique of Kesen-carpenter in Rikuzentakata and the metal of Kamaishi are used to make the guitars. The guitars won the Wood Design Award in 2018. The community members are proud of the award that the world-class electric guitars were born in Onagawa town.
However, the reason why the president, Yosuke Kajiya set up his workshop in Onagawa Town, was not for the restoration assistance. It was because the mood and atmosphere of the people he met in Onagawa Town was impressive. And another reason why he used the metal techniques of Kesen-carpenter and Kamaishi metal in Rikuzentakata for his guitar was that there were high technologies nearby. His business does not show the whole story of the devastated area and reconstruction. He creates a comfortable place to live, he brushes up on his skills, he expands his business scale with ingenuity and ideas, and creates a world-class guitars. His unique and creative business sense will contribute to the reconstruction of the region as a result. His new challenge is to tell us about it.
